The Opportunity:
The Building Engineer (BE) is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and safe operation of the school. The BE is responsible for ensuring compliance with all facility-related governmental regulatory requirements. Duties include performing janitorial and custodial tasks, operating all building systems including heating, hot water, and fire safety, and undertaking repairs in consultation with supervisors and consistent with industry best practices.
You will:
Under the direction of the Director of School Operations, the BE is responsible for:
- Maintain the school facility to comply with all applicable governmental regulatory requirements.
- Perform and utilize inspections to plan and execute an annual facilities maintenance plan and schedule accordingly.
- Order maintenance supplies as needed in compliance with YBP procurement and budgetary requirements and procedures.
- Work occasional weekends and/or evening hours as needed for building safely or other operational needs.
- Ensure that regular maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner and that associated reports and checklists are completed and submitted to supervisors as required.
- Maintain and account for YBP inventory of equipment and tools utilized for facility maintenance tasks, including vans.
- Utilize computer-based systems and resources to order supplies, complete timesheets, etc.
- Communicate and collaborate with the Director of School Operations regarding facility maintenance needs, tasks, assignments, and maintenance work schedules.
- Ensure that all daily, weekly, monthly and yearly cleaning and repair tasks are carried out and kept up to date and that the school is maintained in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition.
- Monitor and ensure appropriate ordering, storing, inventory and use of school cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate with other departments within YBP on responding to emergencies, supporting events, and general building use.
- Conducts periodic inventory of furniture, appliances, supplies, equipment and machinery.
- Perform regular facility inspections, including weekly inspection reports of each room, documenting conditions, repairs, and tracking tasks electronically.
- Maintains and submits monthly vehicle use and site safety logs.
- Prepare vehicle maintenance log and life/safety inspections.
- Monitors contractors’ work and other facility service providers.
- Assist in establishing procedures and schedules for cleaning and maintenance of buildings, including trash disposal and removal.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations, including but not limited to storms and snow events
- General administrative and other related duties as needed and as assigned.
Requirements
You are/have…
- High school diploma or equivalent (or equivalent relevant experience) required
- 3-5 experience in custodial operations, facilities and/or property management, or a construction or facilities management environment.
- Certificate or certification in a building trade, maintenance, building systems or building equipment repair is preferred
- In-depth knowledge and experience in industrial/commercial building maintenance, janitorial maintenance, repair, and fire safety
- Demonstrated leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and milestones
- Demonstrated English writing and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, management and outside contractors
- Ability to safely lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to manage multiple demands and work well independently and within a team
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Valid PA State Driver’s license with no suspensions and fewer than 3 points required
- Basic computer skills a must: word processing, email, spreadsheets, and use of web-based systems.
- Fire safety certification desired
- Responsible for waste management, snow removal, correct collection of refuse and recycling
- Perform other related tasks as needed and/or required

Salary Range:
New YouthBuild Coordinator level staff can expect a starting salary of between $46,000 - $60,500 based on years of experience, education, and certifications, if applicable.
