NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, maintains general security and safety of the Superior Court and Justice Courts in Yuma County; operates metal detectors and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas; patrols facilities as directed and monitors video cameras; provides customer service as required.
Nature of Work
(Illustrative Only) Patrols buildings, facilities, and grounds; provides a visible, armed security presence at the public entrance and throughout the Superior Court building, Juvenile Justice Center and Justice Courts; carries and safely employs department issued firearms and other defensive weapons as situations dictate; operates metal detectors and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; addresses situations that may be or escalate to a disturbance or hazard to the courthouse; issues identification badges to control employee bypass entrances and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas; monitors and regularly test closed circuit TV and various fire and security alarm systems; may serve, as directed, as a security escort or as a security presence in a variety of court situations; responds to medical emergencies and renders first aid and CPR as a first responder; participates on the superior court emergency response team, following the court’s disaster/emergency response procedures; implements emergency procedures as directed and when appropriate; investigates, prepares, and submits reports on security incidents and completes daily incident recaps; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information; abides by the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Experience and Education
High school diploma or GED OR an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field; AND two years of relevant, responsible law enforcement, military, private security, or closely related experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background and reference checks; this classification requires the applicant to pass a psychological evaluation and polygraph examination; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required; employees in this classification must have at the time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License with a clean driving record; must attend and successfully complete a 40-hour Court Security Officer Training course and be certified in accordance with standards set by the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts; must attend and successfully complete a 40-hour Court Security Officer’s Firearms Academy.; must complete all annual training requirements; work includes 8 or 10 hour shifts, weekend rotations and work station rotations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment and Court facilities; may be exposed to potential physical harm, infectious diseases and/or physical violence; required to physically restrain persons, and effectively deal with stressful and potentially hazardous emergency situations; must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards; may be required to lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items; must be able to quickly ascend stairs to respond in an emergency situation; must be able to wear and carry assigned duty gear to include a ballistic vest.; must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk and use stairs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures, applicable Federal rules and requirements; Yuma County and Superior Court policies and procedures; Superior Court in Yuma County- Rules of the Judicial Merit System and the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees; principles, practices, techniques, and equipment used in Court security; standard Operating Guidelines for the Security Division of Superior Court in Yuma County; legal terminology and court processes and procedures; community resources and services.
Skills in: Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds; working under pressure in a dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities; in communicating effectively with persons who are confused, angry, and/or openly hostile; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with court employees, and the public; exercising sound judgment within general policy guidelines; using and maintaining proficiency in the use of firearms, special weapons, and special law enforcement equipment; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications; maintaining situational awareness to identify potential threats and respond accordingly.
Ability To: Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions; qualify with firearms and less lethal weapons, as assigned, on an annual basis; evaluate and respond appropriately to security problems in a swift and effective manner; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Plan Option 3: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) with a 1700 deductible. Employees who participate in the “ Wellness Incentive” will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.
Employer contributes a total of $800.04 to employees Health Savings Account. If employees select Employee only and participate in the “ Wellness Incentive” employees can receive up to 360.00 contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card to be used for medical or dental purposes.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan A and PPO Plan B. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
