Substitute teachers work as their availability and YWCA's needs allows. We have preschool locations in Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, and West County. MUST have completed 12 ECE Units in Early Childhood Education. DAILY, LONG- and Short-term assignments available.

Working in collaboration with other teachers, this position helps develop and implement a quality childcare program that supports children’s physical, social/emotional, and cognitive areas of development. This includes modeling appropriate behaviors, planning classroom and small group activities, setting-up/ cleaning-up classrooms, assisting with student arrival and departures, food program preparation and maintaining appropriate documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Supervises groups of children from diverse backgrounds and implement daily planned activities/curricula.
- Assists with opening and closing the Center, which may include conducting health checks, setting up/putting away materials, arranging classroom environment, and performing cleanup.
- Supervises children inside and outside in daily activities and work with teaching team to develop relevant and age-appropriate curriculum.
- Maintains daily schedule to meet children’s needs and conducts daily group time activities (small and large group). Incorporates culturally competent/multicultural materials and activities.
- Promotes and enhance children’s development through nurturing and positive interactions; handles inappropriate behavior with positive discipline; redirects children to appropriate alternatives, models appropriate responses to the situation.
- Leads activities which promote children’s self- esteem, including acknowledging and reinforcing positive behavior.
- Assists with the facilitation of the food program- meal prep, meal service, meal clean up and general kitchen duties.
- Works well with others as part of a team.
- Performs routine non-instructional activities related to the care of children, including child personal care, daily chores, and center cleaning.
Minimum Qualifications: Must meet the Associate Teacher or Teacher requirements of the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, for Title 5 childcare centers as follows:
Must currently possess, or be qualified to apply for and be granted the Associate Teacher Permit:
- Option 1: 12 units ECE/ CD including core courses
- Option 2: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
Or Teacher Permit:
- Option 1: 24 units ECE/CD including core courses plus 16 General Education (GE) units
- Option 2: AA or higher in ECE/CD or related field with 3 units supervised field experience in ECE/CD setting
Must have at least one year experience working in a licensed childcare facility.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
- First Aid and CPR certification a plus
Conditions of Hire:
- Prior to employment, ability to pass agency criminal background check, TB test and physical.
- Valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance and immunization records to influenza, pertussis, and measles
