At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, one or more positions as Senior Researcher in Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics are open for appointment from 1 July 2025 or soon hereafter.

The Senior Researchers are expected to participate in large-scale microbial genomics and bioinformatics with the focus on both prokaryotic and fungal phylogeny and taxonomy. The position will be anchored in Center for Microbial Communities with approx. 50 scientists at various career levels, working with structure and function of microbial communities, primarily related to environmental microbiology and biotechnology. The Center has state of the art equipment for DNA analyses, computing and advanced microscopy. The successful candidates must have documented expertise in microbial(meta)genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, phylogeny and taxonomy and have demonstrated outstanding research within the focus area.
Some teaching may be included, primarily in microbiology, genomics, statistics and bioinformatics, but also in other study programmes at the University.
Qualification requirements
The level of qualification for Senior Researcher shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Researcher, Postdoc, or Assistant Professor but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level. Teaching experience and documented teaching qualifications will be regarded favorably.

Assessment
The assessment of applicants for the position will be carried out by an assessment committee. Shortlisting will be applied. This means that the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select candidates for assessment. Candidates selected for assessment will then be informed about the composition of the assessment committee. All candidates will be notified whether they have been shortlisted for assessment or not.
Applicants who are selected for assessment will have the opportunity to comment on their assessment.
When the hiring process is completed, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
