At Aalborg University Business School, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, a position as Professor in The Economics of Innovation is available from August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The research group on Innovation, Knowledge and Economic dynamics(IKE group) at Aalborg University Business School(AAUBS) has a history spanning over 40 years in innovation and entrepreneurship research. We are acknowledged contributors to the global industrial dynamics research community. We are currently seeking a Professor in The Economics of Innovation to contribute to the ongoing development of research and teaching in this dynamic and evolving research field.
The position is open for appointment starting August 1st, 2025, or shortly thereafter. The formal qualification requirements for position are outlined below.
We are seeking applicants with an ambitious research agenda that can document research and teaching experience within one or more of the following areas:
As a member of the IKE Research Group, you will join a supportive community dedicated to producing internationally recognised research. You are expected to engage actively in joint IKE-activities. The group’s primary focus is on industrial dynamics, encompassing innovation and industrial transformation, regional innovation systems, entrepreneurship, technological changes, sustainability and green transition, as well as the emergence and implications of new technologies.
Prioritised academic journals for the IKE Group include Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, Regional Studies, Small Business Economics, Industry and Innovation, Technovation, Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. These journals are high-level journals, and we do expect applicants to have publications at this level and the interest in pursuing publication in these or equivalent journals.
The IKE group’s research is based on diverse research methods, spanning from quantitative methods on register, survey, and patent data, to various qualitative methods; also emphasizing the interplay between qualitative and quantitative methods and data. There is a growing focus on novel computational methods such as NLP, machine learning, and AI within the group.
Teaching activities in the position include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning of Problem Based Learning(PBL) programs at bachelor and master levels as well as PhD supervision and training. Applicants must document pedagogical skills, curricula development experience and educational program management. Emphasis will be placed on a comprehensive teaching experience in core business school fields such as macro- and microeconomics, and quantitative methods as well as within the topics outlined in the job description.
The position as professor at AAUBS also involves external fund raising, organization of international conferences and the management of international research projects.
While the main working language at AAUBS is English, teaching programs at undergraduate level are mainly taught in Danish. Knowledge of Danish or another Scandinavian language is therefore an advantage. Alternatively, the candidate should be willing to learn basic Danish skills within the first two years of employment.
The position as professor is a permanent position with obligation to research, teaching and publication/academic dissemination.
Qualification requirements
Applicants for a professorship are required to provide documentation of a substantial amount of original scientific production at international level, and documentation of significant contribution to the development of the research area in question. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s ability to perform research management and other management functions, provide pedagogical guidance as well as supervision at the highest level and take part in academic assessments.
