About the job
The protection assistant (PA) will work from the community information centers in Malakal, Kodok and Kaka to provide information to IDPs and other affected communities, approaching the center on services and assistance available in the POC and refer individual cases for assistance to services providers available in the camp. The PA will be involved in community mobilization activities and the follow up of vulnerable individuals or persons with special needs. Additionally, the PA will support the POs in the organizing of workshops and training at community level or for government and other stakeholders on IDP rights, protection and human rights).Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Support protection officers in the coordination and implementation of services/assistance to be provided according to the specific protection needs and individual care plans generated for each case.
  • Ensure respect for protection principles, including confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Ensure active listening to beneficiaries in order to provide the most appropriate humanitarian assistance to address identified protection needs.
  • Hold office at the community Information Centers to (CICs) enable IDPs to access information.
  • Refers individual cases for assistance to service providers in the POC or to the protection officers for their follow up or action on the respective cases.
  • Record all the cases received in the CICs on the intake form and share it with the protection officers on a weekly basis.
  • Visit IDPs household to identify persons with specific needs (PSNs) or to follow up on identified PSNs under the supervision of the protection officers.
  • Support the protection officers in the follow up with the relevant partners on individual cases which have been referred as needed.
  • Contribute to the elaboration of work plans and ensure to implement program activities accordingly.
  • Support the protection officers in the organizing of trainings, workshops and meetings for the IDPs and relevant stakeholders on IDPs rights, responsibilities and other protection related material.
  • Assist the protection officers with the establishment of good working relationships with community activists, chiefs and other relevant actors to encourage participation in, support for and a better understanding of the program activities.

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with limited supervision., excellent computer skills in MS Word & and Excel.

Required

  • Previous experience in community – based activities including mobilization, awareness campaigns or any other activity that included the involvement of the community members and /or leaders
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience involving human rights, protection in humanitarian emergencies
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of human rights and protection principles.
  • Experience in carrying out and supervising training at different scales with different partners
  • Strong relationship building/ interpersonal skill;
  • Basic protection and human rights training;
  • Positive attitude;
