Research Assistant for the Moritz Group

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistantto support our efforts in using Metabolomics in understanding metabolismto commence July 1, 2025, or after agreement.

Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharma­cology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. CBMR was established in 2010, at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and has been located in the Maersk Tower at Panum since 2017. The around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.

Our group and research
The Moritz Group use metabolomics approaches to study the role of metabolites and lipids in metabolism. By using mass spectrometry-based methods we can screen for 100s to 1000s compounds or target specific compounds in different biological systems. We hope to be able to uncover the basic role of metabolites in metabolism and their role in developing diseases.

Your job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant who will be part of research projects where focus is global or targeted analyses of metabolites and lipids in various biological sample matrices. An important part will be development and optimization of new LC- and GC-MS methods, developing strategies and methods for quantitative and qualitative analysis of specific metabolites in biological tissues and fluids. The work will include sample preparation, mass spectrometry (MS) and processing of MS-data, as well as performing basic statistical data evaluation of metabolomics data. The candidate will have a great opportunity to advance her/his basic research skills.

Your Profile
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• MSc. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or a related field
• Knowledge in mass spectrometry analyses
• Knowledge in quality assessment and validation of methods
• Flexible and able to organize your own time efficiently
• Good at working independently and self-motivated
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, especially in English; spoken as well as written.

Desirable experience and skills

• Practical experience with, and skills in mass spectrometry
• Experiences in metabolomics analysis
• Data preprocessing of MS-based metabolomics analysis using e.g. MZmine, XCMS or MS-dial.
• Knowledge in univariate and multivariate statistics

The place of employment is at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as research assistant is a full-time position for 1 year. The expected starting date is July 1, 2025, or after agreement. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
