πŸ’Ά: This will be their first Design Manager so they are flexible with salaries

My name is Diego and I have the pleasure of heading up Matchtech's Renewable Energy Recruitment Desk.

I am working with a fantastic design consultancy who have just opened a office in Copenhagen. Due to their success across the globe, they are now in a position to grow rapidly.

With a strong portfolio in the design and delivery of offshore structures, including monopile, jacket, and floating foundations, they are at the forefront of the renewable energy transition.

Role Overview

They are seeking an experienced and dynamic Design Manager to lead and manage their team of structural engineers dedicated to Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Foundation projects. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the design delivery, resource planning, technical assurance, and client engagement across multiple offshore wind projects globally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the structural engineering design team for WTG foundation projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and technically robust designs.
  • Oversee the day-to-day coordination of project design activities, from concept through detailed design, fabrication support, and installation phases.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between clients, certification bodies, and internal engineering teams.
  • Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and budgets for design activities, ensuring alignment with overall project programmes.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance, reviewing and approving key design deliverables.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with industry codes, standards, and project-specific requirements, maintaining a focus on innovation and optimisation.
  • Mentor and develop structural engineers within the team, promoting continuous technical improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, technical scope definition, and client presentations.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives for offshore structures, including digitalisation, design process improvements, and emerging foundation technologies (e.g., floating structures).

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree-qualified in Civil / Structural / Offshore Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE, or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in the offshore wind industry, with a strong background in the structural design of WTG foundations (monopile, jacket, or floating).
  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary engineering design teams within a consultancy or contractor environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant offshore design standards (e.g., DNV, ISO, API, IEC).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, global consultancy setting.

Desirable:

  • Experience in international offshore wind markets (Europe, Asia-Pacific, US).
  • Familiarity with digital design tools, structural analysis software (e.g., SESAM, ANSYS, ABAQUS, RFEM, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with certification bodies and offshore installation contractors.
  • Knowledge of floating foundation design and emerging offshore technologies.
