The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at Kiel University, Institute of Business Administration, Professorship of Service Analytics, is seeking to fill the position of an Assistant Professor of Service Analytics from May 5, 2025 or later.
Research assistant (m/f/d)
temporary position initially until the end of September 2026. The regular weekly working time is 50% of a full-time position, currently 19.35 hours. Remuneration will be paid in pay group 13 TV-L if the requirements of the collective agreement are met.
Our profile: In our working group, we enable flexible, location-independent work and value communicative exchange and good cohesion. Our research and teaching in the field of service analytics combines methods of operations research and analytics (data analysis, simulation and optimization) to model, plan and improve service systems. Our research is quantitative and application-oriented: for example, we investigate issues relating to demand management and increasing efficiency in mobility, logistics and healthcare.
Your tasks: The research focus of the position is on the design, development, and validation of decision support approaches. In particular, the aim is to develop forecasting and simulation approaches to improve the planning of requirements and the deployment of nursing staff under different conditions with regard to the data situation and the expertise of the decision-makers. You will also be involved in teaching courses (exercises, seminars) in German and English in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes and will also be involved in organizational tasks. The teaching obligation is based on the Teaching Obligation Ordinance and currently amounts to two teaching hours (LVS) per week. The employment relationship serves the applicant's own academic qualification.
Recruitment requirements: Prerequisites are an academic university degree (Master's or Diploma) with a high grade (at least 1.5) in business administration with a focus on analytics or operations research, business informatics, industrial engineering or a related course of study. Knowledge of programming, statistics or machine learning, as well as mathematical modeling and optimization is desirable. You should enjoy working on complex problems, have very good language skills in German and English (language level C1), strong analytical skills and be willing to work independently and as part of a team.
