The role of an Optical Engineer is to undertake, analyze and report experiments which will aid in the design of novel measurement systems. The candidate will work in a group of scientists, responsible for designing next-generation test technologies and metrology, including hardware, software, instruments and fixtures.


Responsibilities:

  • Design experiments for optical systems under test
  • Perform optical measurements and evaluate data to influence engineering designs
  • Simulate the optical properties of the devices under test
  • Support the design of novel metrology solutions and communicate design decisions and strategies to a cross-functional team.
  • Conduct benchmarking of optical systems to inform design of emerging technologies
  • Collaborate across teams to create, define and document measurement metrics and specifications.


Mandatory Skills Description:

  • Technical background in optical engineering, lasers, microscopy or optical design
  • Hands-on lab experience, especially in the alignment of optical benchtop setups
  • Competence in data analysis, visualization, and algorithm development in Python or Matlab.
  • Advanced knowledge in design, construction and operation of optical lab experiments, data analysis and reporting
  • Hands-on experience in optical design tools (Zemax, Code V or LightTrans) are a plus.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with team members, internal and external partners.
  • Ability to explore potential technologies and work with suppliers on prototype development.
  • Excellent English, Communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and dedicated.


Nice-to-Have Skills Description:

  • Experience in instrumentation design
  • University/research background
  • Experience in automatization of optical benchtop setups
  • Experience in calibration and validation of optical instruments
  • Experience in camera design and associated technologies
  • Previous experience building or managing an optical laboratory


Languages:

  • English: B2 Upper Intermediate
