The **Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS)**is one of the largest practice-oriented higher education institutions in Bavaria. You will be part of a team developing future-oriented solutions in the field of Power System Components, pushing the boundaries of technology to contribute to sustainable electrical energy networks through state-of-the-art simulations and measurements.

We are currently looking to fill the following position:

Doctoral position "Partial discharge pattern-recognition method for transformer failure analysis" (f/m/x) as a part-time position (75%) Application reference: 14.2.691

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, your place of employment will be our location in Schweinfurt. The part-time position (30 hours/week) is subject to a fixed-term contract expiring on 30 April 2028 with the possibility of extension.

Your future role:

We are looking for a scientific researcher in electrical power engineering. In this role, you will engage in research in the field of high-voltage engineering, teaching responsibilities, and project management. You will join our interdiscplinary team and together we will develop innovative solutions and contribute to advancing knowledge in the field of power transformers. You will cover the needs of our industry partner, Hitachi Energy Germany AG, in a well-defined project and play an effective role in enhancing university-industry cooperations.

Your research will be focused on partial discharge pattern-recognition method for investigation of failures during the final test of transformers in the factory. The method should be enhanced and supported by artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, this role offers the opportunity to pursue a doctorate, allowing you to enhance your academic and research profile.

Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree (e.g. master's degree or comparable university / higher education degree) in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related subject
  • Experience with power transformers: simulation, measurement, and monitoring
  • Experience with high voltage engineering
  • Understanding of partial discharge detection techniques in the field of power transformers
