Position Title: Data Engineer

Location: Flexible (preferred: Budapest; coworking office near Kalvin Square and/or home office)

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent employment with 3-month probation period (part-time negotiable)

Salary: 800,000 - 1,600,000 HUF gross FTE, depending on education, skills, and experience

Start Date: As soon as possible

About The Government Transparency Institute (GTI):

Role Overview:

We are seeking an IT professional with a strong technical background to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to public policy projects funded by the European Union, UN, IMF, World Bank. The role includes collecting data on public procurement, interest, and asset declarations; designing and refining data engineering workflows; establishing databases; and developing APIs to ensure secure access to the data.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data engineering pipelines, including web-scraping and data cleaning.
  • Develop and maintain relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Build APIs to facilitate controlled access to our data.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or other Engineering discipline with a strong programming background.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, Scala, or R.
  • Experience with Git, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, and managing cloud-based, distributed Linux environments.
  • Strong focus on efficiency and long-term maintainability of software solutions.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
