Open Door is currently seeking a WIC Outreach Specialist (CIAO) based in our Tarrytown site; with a mix of onsite (2-3 days per week) and remote (2-3 says per week) work. The WIC Outreach Specialist (CIAO) will assist with oversight and successful implementation of the overarching goals of the Open Door WIC CIAO grant project, which are:
- Formalizing partnerships between Early Head Start/ Head Start (EHS/HS) and local WIC agencies to create a bidirectional referral framework, collaborate on the EHS/HS Health Services Advisory Committee, cross train WIC and EHS/HS staff, and identify ways to increase WIC awareness and coordinate EHS/HS and WIC services
- Developing educational workshops about WIC foods, nutrition, and breastfeeding, and collaborating to provide educational sessions to EHS/HS families to improve retention and WIC benefits redemption
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
This position is a 2-year, full-time opportunity exclusively funded by the USDA WIC Community Innovation and Outreach (WIC CIAO) grant. The maximum term of employment in this position is 01/06/25- 12/31/26. For the grant contract period, the position is offered as hybrid, with 5 working days per week such as: a minimum of 2-3 days on-site at Open Door and 2-3 days working from home and/or in the field. The employee reports to the WIC CIAO Project Lead.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
WIC OUTREACH LIAISON
- Serves as a program content expert for WIC and Head Start/Early Head Start Programs; completes all training and continuing education required to appropriately represent the Open Door WIC CIAO project and its project partners
- Fosters existing relationships with community partners and assists with building new partnerships as related to the project, with a focus on the Head Start/Early Head Start and WIC Program partners
- Manages WIC referrals from Head Start using the EligibilityEase web-based platform and assists program partners with use of the database; provides feedback to the WIC CIAO Project Lead and EligibilityEase developers about the product to recommend improvements and enhance the user experience
- Prescreens new program candidates and collaborates with WIC staff to schedule appointments and close referrals
- Collaborates with the WIC Outreach Coordinator, WIC Nutrition Coordinator, and Open Door Communications team to generate education materials, promotional materials, and social media content as it relates to WIC CIAO
- Assists with the development and delivery of WIC education at Head Start and Early Head start partner sites, both on-site and virtually, and coordinates program scheduling and staffing with partners
ASSISTS THE WIC CIAO PROJECT LEAD
- Coordinates, schedules, and attends all project meetings, including routine check-ins with the project lead, project partners, quarterly team calls, and mandatory webinars as required by WIC CIAO
- Maintains records throughout the grant period; takes meeting minutes, obtains, and organizes data for quarterly reports, and ensures timely submission of required materials to WIC CIAO
- Maintains working knowledge of all WIC CIAO, WIC, Head Start and Early Head Start policies, eligibility criteria, and updates throughout the grant period and assists with communicating updates to team members
- Assists with managing all WIC CIAO evaluation requirements, including survey administration to partners and program applicants
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field preferred
- At least 1 year of experience working in a WIC and/or Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
- Passionate about providing high quality care to low-income, underserved individuals and those lacking access to health care
- Highly organized, flexible, self-directed, with multi-tasking ability
- Strong interpersonal skills including excellent active listening and clear oral communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and has the ability and interest to learn new computer systems and functions
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, team-based environment
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
