The PTA works under the direction of an Physical Therapists. Completes documentation according to established procedures. Is involved in support duties as assigned. Contributes to professional development of self and others. Enhances interdisciplinary team through professional skills and knowledge.
Job Description
- Implements patient’s individualized treatment plan as established by the primary Physical Therapist, including application of therapeutic techniques in such areas as cognitive skills, muscle strength, coordination, endurance, mobility, perceptual abilities, sensory awareness, sitting and standing tolerance, balance, activities of daily living, joint protection, work simplification, orientation and physical agent modalities.
- Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.
- Instructs patients, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
- Maintains appropriate and timely documentation for all patients treated.
- Attends and contributes to patient care, staffing conferences and other required meetings as a representative of physical therapy, under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Puts Patient Service First: Ensures that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program according to APTA & CAPTAstandards.
- Initial certification obtained from the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy.State License/registration in California
- CPR and basic lifesaving skills certification
