What You Will Contribute:
 

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of computer-controlled and mechanically controlled equipment to produce precision metal parts. This position will also take precise measurements for cutting or shaping and will select appropriate machine and settings for a given task.

Job Duties:

• Set up, assist and/ or operate conventional, special-purpose, computer and numerical control CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts by applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, and layout techniques.  

• Work from detailed instructions, blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications.  

• Sample part to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece.  

• Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.  

• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.  

• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining.  

• Adjust machine controls, offsets, fixtures, and stops.  

• Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.  

Education and Experience:

• High School degree/GED required; Trade school preferred

• 3 years of experience with lathes and CNC programs desired

Qualifications:

• Intermediate proficiency in math required

• Solid written and verbal communication skills required

• Excellent coordination and mechanical skills required

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment

• Must be able to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.

• Depending on the assigned department, must be able to demonstrate the ability to lift up to 60 pounds, and complete an audiogram test
