Location BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Title Director of Infection Prevention & Epidemiology The Director of Infection Prevention is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive infection prevention and control program across a multi-facility hospital system, including four hospitals, multiple physician practices, a skilled nursing facility (SNF), and a home health agency. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory standards, reduces the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and promotes a culture of safety and high-quality patient care. This role requires strong leadership, expert knowledge of infection prevention practices, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse healthcare settings. This job description outlines the critical responsibilities and qualifications for the Director of Infection Prevention, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and the community across a diverse and expansive healthcare system. The Director of Infection Control is responsible for coordinating the multiple facets of the Infection Control program. This position involves professional responsibilities in the following areas: program development, case finding, surveillance, reporting, analysis and interpretation, inspection, infection control measures, education, consultation, evaluation, and recommendation. The goals of the Infection Control Officer are to protect Bronson patients, staff and visitors from infectious diseases, and do so in an evidence-based, cost-effective, and efficient way. The essential duties involve designing and using the Bronson healthcare system to minimize the risk of infection. Qualifications: Education: Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Epidemiology, or a related field required. PharmD, MD, or PhD preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required. Completion of SHEA/CDC Training Course in Healthcare Epidemiology preferred. Experience: 7-10 years in infection prevention within a healthcare setting, including 3-5 years in a leadership role. Experience managing infection prevention across multiple healthcare settings. Skills: In-depth knowledge of infection prevention principles and regulations. Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and influence change. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and infection surveillance software. Key Responsibilities: 1. Leadership and Strategy: Develop, implement, and manage the infection prevention program in alignment with our mission and strategic plan. Lead the infection prevention team, providing mentorship and professional development. Collaborate with executive leadership and clinical teams to establish infection prevention policies. Monitor trends in infection prevention, integrating evidence-based practices. 2. Program Development and Management: Oversee the development and implementation of infection prevention policies across hospitals and services. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from TJC, CMS, and CDC. Design infection surveillance systems for timely identification and reporting of HAIs. Coordinate with departments to support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives. Maintain best practices and guidelines for infection prevention. 3. Education and Training: Develop and deliver infection prevention training for all healthcare staff. Provide ongoing education about infection prevention practices and outbreak management. Engage stakeholders to minimize infection risks. 4. Surveillance and Data Analysis: Direct the collection and analysis of infection-related data. Develop dashboards to track infection rates and compliance. Identify trends and develop action plans for improvement. Ensure preparedness for infectious disease emergencies. 5. Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal infection control regulations. Lead infection control-related surveys and audits. Develop corrective action plans for deficiencies. Liaise with the national Healthcare Safety Network. 6. Outbreak Management: Lead investigation and management of infection outbreaks. Coordinate with public health authorities during outbreaks. Develop emergency preparedness plans related to infectious diseases. 7. Collaboration and Communication: Act as a liaison between infection prevention and various departments. Promote adherence to infection prevention protocols among healthcare providers. Communicate with patients and the community during outbreaks. 8. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the infection prevention program budget. Advocate for resources to support infection prevention initiatives. Evaluate and implement new technologies for infection prevention. 9. Research and Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement projects to reduce HAIs. Collaborate on research studies and publish findings. Benchmark infection prevention performance and implement strategies for improvement. Work Environment: Mix of office work and on-site visits to various facilities. Some travel between healthcare settings required. Work may involve mental and physical demands typical of a healthcare leadership role.
