Job Description Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures that aid in confirmation of patient diagnosis. Experience No minimum experience required Preferred Qualifications Experience in a clinical laboratory Associate's degree from accredited institution with at least 60 semester hours or equivalent that includes 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination Education High School Diploma or equivalent Certification Summary American Society for Clinical Pathology histotechnician (persons who recently moved to the state or recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be classified as technologists or technicians for 18 months to afford an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Use of independent judgement and responsibility with minimum technical supervision Strives for adult-adult relationships with colleagues, subordinates, and superiors Job Responsibilities Performs routine histologic specimen processing procedures per standard operating policies. Performs routine histology stains, special stains per standard operating procedures, and enzyme-histochemistry and immunofluorescence stains. Performs tasks to support overall department operation. Assists pathologists with gross pathology procedures, including biopsy grossing and adequacy assessment if educational requirements are met. Maintains current technical knowledge and skills as defined in laboratory continuing education policy. Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Uses critical thinking principles in making decisions that lead to desired outcomes. Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to encourage consistent use of lean principals and processes.
