Summary
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides specialty and preventive cardiac health care services to an adult population. In collaboration with the attending physician, provides all aspects of acute care including patient admissions, consults, follow-up care and discharges. Coordinates specialty care and discharge management for acute care patients. Provides care to same population in the office setting as well.
Education
For Nurse Practitioners: Completion of Master's degree in Advanced Practice Nursing or 4 years of formal training or education beyond high school (e.g. Bachelor's Degree).
For Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physicians Assistant Certification Program is required.
Certification, Registration & Licensure
Certification required: ACLS.
Licensure required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: New Hampshire license as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and DEA license.
Physician Assistant: New Hampshire license as Physician Assistant. DEA license for both APRN and PAs
Experience
At least one year of cardiology provider experience.
Responsibilities
Work in collaboration with the electrophysiologists to provide care for EP patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Outpatient evaluation of new and established patients in the arrhythmia clinic for various rhythm disturbances. This may include shared visits with the electrophysiologists or arrhythmia team cardiologist.
- Evaluation of unscheduled urgent patients who require follow up following EP procedures.
- Inpatient consultation and evaluation of patients needing pacemaker/ICD implant, device interrogation, generator changes, MRI clearance, drug loads, pre and post op management, or trouble shooting cardiac rhythm abnormalities.
- Facilitate workup and evaluation for therapeutic procedures including cardiac implanted devices (Implantable cardioverter defibrillators, pacemakers, loop recorders), drug loads, left atrial appendage closure devices and catheter ablation procedures.
- Device evaluation and safety assessments for device management during radiation therapy, MRI testing, and surgical procedures
- Support of the device clinic program and serve as resource for troubleshooting and follow up on patients with implantable devices.
- Proficiency in the management of various brands of CID such as: Medtronic, St. Jude (Abbott), Boston Scientific and Biotronik as well as all programmer platforms.
- Assistance with device follow up as needed. This may include device clinic coverage for either Concord or Laconia offices and/or support for Cardiovascular Institute outreach sites.
- Evaluation of unscheduled device patients who may need interrogation or trouble shooting in the hospital and/or office setting.
- Serves as a resource to other members of the cardiology provider team and/or hospital team in regards to rhythm and device management.
- Take part in review and sign off on remote device transmissions and interrogations in the device software platform.
- Assist and collaborate with appropriate team members regarding program EP team development
