Position Summary: The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the coordination and deployment of manufacturing equipment, tools, and fixtures for automation projects of the current and future equipment processes in Clayton facilities. The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer should possess a knowledge in design, implementation, improvement, and operation of Industrial Systems utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), pneumatic & hydraulic, and servo-controlled systems. The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will act as an innovation leader by working in adapting automation, including robotics, to existing processes based on business drivers, and working with vendors to configure and innovation equipment for process applications.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Adapt lean manufacturing principles into process automation including one piece flow, Kanban, pokayoke, and utilizing data acquisition for process optimization.
- Use products such as hydraulics, mechatronics, pneumatics, conveyance, vacuum/dust collection, to provide engineering support to the automated lines in Clayton Supply plants.
- Design, develop, upgrade, and standardize new manufacturing equipment, including vacuum, pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic and vision systems.
- Update, modify, and continuously improve existing mechanical systems including robotics, conveyance, dust collection, material handling, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Design for fabrication (fixtures and machines)
- Coordinate with production and maintenance as well as original equipment vendors on existing machine modifications or installations.
- Create, maintain, and keep current documentation: mechanical system drawings, layouts, machine drawings, specifications for engineering basis of equipment.
- Develop technical documentation, including bill of materials, Detailed Design Specifications, equipment testing and mechanical.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. .
- Provide manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
- Maintain product and process data base by writing computer programs, entering data.
- Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results, as needed.
- Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineer, Welding Engineering, or Automation & Controls Engineering. (2yr Technical Degree with the right experience will be considered)
- 5 years of experience with implementing industrial systems.
- Machine design with adaptation of electrical controls such as PLC’s, servo controls, or vision systems.
- AutoCAD Experience (or Solid works)
- Experience with PLCs, Servo Controls, and Variable Frequency Drives and their applications to mechanical systems not required, but preferred.
- Experience with Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems preferred.
- Sound knowledge of Access Database, .NET programming, SQL programming preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, leading a team to meet critical deadlines of the different projects.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
- Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
- Must be able to spend up to 50% of time on the production floor collaborating with production team members including the ability to climb steps and ladders when needed.
- Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
