Position Summary: The nursing assistant participates in the provision of nursing care by performing basic activities of patient care and related support services as delegated by the licensed nurse. Essential Functions: Providing great patient care. Answering patient calls and determining how best to help them. Providing physical support for patients or residents with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, - using the toilet, walking, standing, or exercising. Turning and repositioning bedridden patients. Ensuring patients or residents receive an appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences. Obtaining a wide range of information from physicians, caregivers, and nurses about patient conditions, treatment plans, and suggested activities. Measuring and recording food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output and reporting changes to medical or nursing staff. Recording vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate as requested by staff. Examining patients to detect issues requiring medical care, including open wounds, bruises, or blood in the urine. Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms reporitng changes in patients condition to RN/LPN Education: High School Diploma required with the successful completion of state approved course of study and certification testing for Nursing Assistant training and/or documented completion of military equivalent, and/or successful completion of fundamentals semester of nursing school required. Experience/Qualifications: Previous nursing assistant experience preferred Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of infections, conditions, and the general terminology used by medical professionals Computer Skills Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Skills Communication Skills Interpersonal Skills Attention to detail License/Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case-by-case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years. Physical Requirements: Medium While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. May be exposed to infectious specimens, diseases, soiled laundry, lifting and handling heavy patients; however, potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Manual dexterity needed for handling reports, charts, instruments and equipment. Talking and hearing essential to communicate with staff, patients and visitors.
