The Position
Genentech, Inc. seeks a Principal Scientist, Technical Development in its South San Francisco, CA location.
Duties: Responsible for the discovery of novel and efficient methods to reprogram human somatic cells into hiPSCs (human-induced pluripotent stem cells). Determine methods to optimize protocols to differentiate hiPSCs into T cells in large scales. Complete data collection, processing, and analysis. Engage in molecular, cellular, and chemistry fieldwork (including exploring biological and chemical pathways and mechanisms at the cellular level, and conducting peptide synthesis) and writing of technical publications and reports. Present project results to internal and external parties. Operate specialized scientific equipment, and build upon new techniques using such equipment. Perform statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. May supervise up to 2 Scientists.
Education and experience required: PhD degree in Stem Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, Developmental Biology, or related field and 6 months of experience in job offered or related Researcher or Scientist position
Special Requirements: Must have experience with:
- Developmental biology
- Induced pluripotent stem cell culture generation & maintenance
- Genetic Editing using CRISPR Cas9
- Aseptic technique
- Biochemistry and Molecular biology techniques including, Western blotting, confocal imaging, and polymerase chain reaction
- Experience delivering complex ideas verbally and in writing to stakeholder groups of varying scientific sophistication
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of South San Francisco, CA is $166,400 to $222,000 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
