To learn more about our agency, please watch our video: Join Our Team Our Facility Security Unit (FSU) is currently hiring multiple Facility Security Officers (FSOs). As an FSO you will be one of the first staff members to welcome people into the various facilities we serve, and will be responsible for keeping our facilities, staff, and community members safe. The FSU is a team of uniformed staff who operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Telework arrangements are not available for FSOs. What it means to be an FSO: You will be responsible for an assigned post where your duties will include, but are not limited to; regulation of access to County facilities and facilitating a safe and secure space for County business to be conducted. Monitor alarm systems and respond to fire, duress, and other alarms inside the facility while demonstrating proficiency in essential, modern security equipment and techniques. Participate in coordinated public safety activities with law enforcement and corrections personnel. Accept bail funds, take clothing exchanges, issue property releases, maintain visitor files, keep daily logs, write incident reports, and testify in court hearings as required. Use excellent communication and customer service skills to provide information about access to the justice system, jail operations, and community resources (emergency housing, food, clothing, medical care). As a uniformed member of the MCSO team, you may be asked to respond to a variety of emergencies, intervene with members of the community who are in mental health crisis and/or address those who are being disruptive. MCSO provides new Officers with a comprehensive training program in conflict management with a focus on communication and de-escalation techniques. Additional training will be provided in the utilization of defensive tools and techniques (including exposure to oleoresin capsicum). The successful candidate will: Be able to multi-task and be flexible with interruptions to work flow. Work well under pressure, manage a high volume of foot traffic, and handle confrontive individuals. Be a great team member and be flexible to changes in work locations and shifts if and when necessary to ensure safety needs, access to facilities, and County services are met. During the one-year trial service period, applicants will participate in the FSU field training program where they will learn to work all posts and facilities the FSU serves. Because the work of MCSO is 24/7, you will be scheduled to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays. In addition to regularly scheduled shifts, overtime may be required to ensure adequate staffing is available to maintain public safety in our facilities. After completing the trial service period, regular shift and day off assignments are determined by an annual seniority bid process. Apply as soon as possible! Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: Minimum of two (2) years combination of work/volunteer experience, military service and/or post high school education. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license by first day of employment. Must pass a criminal records and employment references check. Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Customer service experience in high volume environments where communication skills, empathy and patience are required to achieve the goals of customers within the mission of the organization. Additional training or experience in public safety, law enforcement, building security or a social service related field (i.e. experience as a police reserve and/or college level course work in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or communications). *Transferable skills: Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience (including the military) or life experience that are relevant for this position. Salary: $27.64-$33.85 per hour Type of Position: Hourly, overtime eligible, represented by the AFSCME Local 88 union. Schedule: Positions are full-time (40 hours per week), staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts (day, swing and graveyard) are assigned through a seniority-based system after completing a trial service period. Newly hired employees are likely to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and will be trained on all shifts. In addition to regularly scheduled shifts, overtime may be required to ensure adequate staffing is available to maintain public safety in our facilities. FSOs are considered essential employees during inclement weather, emergencies, pandemics and disasters. This is an in-person position and teleworking is not an option.
