Evonik’s RDI team is seeking a highly motivated Industrial Scientist for a 15-month assignment in our state-of-the-art Allentown, PA facility. This role provides chemical analytical services to internal stakeholders across all divisions of Evonik Industries and external clients as needed.
The Industrial Scientist will contribute to groundbreaking research, innovation, and method development in analytical chemistry. Upon successful completion of the assignment, candidates have the opportunity to transition to a permanent role within the analytical department.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform and interpret analytical measurements using chromatographic methods (GC, HPLC, GPC) and mass spectrometry.
Develop, validate, and document analytical methods; set up and maintain analytical instruments.
Conduct additional techniques, including NMR, IR, titration, thermal analysis, ICP-OES, and particle characterization.
Consult with teams on analytical challenges and contribute to research projects.
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health (ESH) regulations.
Manage shared responsibilities like inventory, ISO certification, and purchasing.
Participate in documentation, reporting, safety initiatives, and training programs.
NATURE & SCOPE:
Education: A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline is preferred, or a Master’s degree is required.
Candidates with a Master’s degree must have at least 3 years of industrial experience in instrumental analytics.
Candidates with a Ph.D. require 0–2 years of industrial experience in instrumental analytics
Proficiency in chromatographic methods (GC, HPLC, GPC) and mass spectrometry.
Hands-on experience with additional techniques such as ICP-OES, NMR, IR, titration, thermal analysis, and particle characterization.
Hands-on experience in method development and advanced analytics.
Knowledge of organic and polymer chemistry.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with global and cross-functional teams.
Strong organizational skills to manage diverse assignments and priorities.
Innovative mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to complete projects, evidenced by a record of publications or presentations.
Proficiency in English, both written and oral.
