Riverside Health /VCU Family Medicine Residency - Faculty Physician
Newport News, VA
We are currently seeking a full-time Family Physician to join our well-established and seasoned faculty group at the Riverside/VCU Family Medicine Residency Program in Newport News, Virginia. The program is the oldest Family Medicine residency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with more than 623 graduates since its establishment in 1971. The Riverside/VCU Family Medicine Residency Program Faculty Physician is responsible for providing an educational experience that enables resident physicians (thirteen in each class) to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to practice independently while becoming innovative leaders in Family Medicine, education, and scholarship. The program also has Osteopathic Recognition through the ACGME and delivers education and skill-building opportunities for osteopathic residents to achieve certification with the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Osteopathic Association.
The ideal candidate will be board certified in Family Medicine and eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia. The MD or DO applicant should have academic credentials demonstrating a strong interest in teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and clinical care in both community-based clinic and hospital settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in providing comprehensive care to all age groups, including low-risk prenatal care.
- Competency in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) or a willingness to pursue POCUS training.
- Competency in caring for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Required:
- Meet comprehensive professional standards.
- Hold a current, valid state of Virginia medical license or be eligible for one.
- Maintain a current, valid DEA controlled substance registration.
Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A collaborative approach with other physicians and providers.
