Packaging Process Engineer (PE) is part of a small team that is responsible for the all the packaging line(s) performance, which includes output, scrap, and downtime reduction. This requires the PE to be on the manufacturing floor 65% of the time evaluating equipment, interacting with and mentoring production associates on equipment standards and troubleshooting. Lead or support of cross-functional teams to complete different project types including packaging design/material changes, process improvements/changes, implementation of new manufacturing equipment/technologies, and test method and process validations. This role also supports capacity planning and growth, as well as define budgeted rates and process documentation. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Summary
Manufacturing Process Engineers are responsible for driving productivity improvements in all manufacturing areas of our facility through Lean/Six Sigma methodologies. They also provide technical support to production operations by performing root cause analysis of equipment failures, developing solutions to ongoing issues and implementing preventive measures. In addition, they work closely with Quality Assurance personnel to ensure quality products are produced consistently.

Responsibilities
1) Develops, evaluates, and implements new or revised processes, procedures, tools, machines, or materials. Responds to specific requests from supervisor regarding required changes. Ensures all design considerations have been addressed and assesses impact on existing methods and procedures.  
2) Coordinates activities between departments and outside vendors to implement changes. Prepare technical documentation for installation and operation of new equipment and/or processes.  
3) Recommends new equipment purchases as necessary to increase efficiency and reduce costs.  
4) Performs statistical process control of manufacturing operations and performs root cause analysis of non-conformances.  
5) Plans and schedules own work. Determines priority based on financial impact of delays and customer needs.  
6) Actively participates in cross functional teams focused on continuous improvement initiatives such as lean six sigma events, kaizen events, and 5S projects.  
7) Participates in training programs to learn new technology, processes, and systems.  
8) Provides input into performance appraisals for assigned employees.  
9) Works independently under general direction.  
10) Follows standard operating procedures and works within established policies and procedures.  

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field plus five years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree plus three years of relevant experience.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.

• Ability to analyze complex data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.

• Demonstrated project management skills including influencing others, organizing, planning, and prioritizing activities.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience working in a regulated industry preferred (i.e., FDA, ISO, MDSAP).

• Training in Six Sigma/Lean desirable.
