Job Description Summary
The Sterilization Engineer is responsible for maintaining technical knowledge of the irradiator & material handling system and transferring this knowledge to the Sterilization associates. This position develops maintenance procedures, improvements to the Sterilization process, and trains technical associates. They will lead efforts to improve uptime (OEE) and help define future system improvements.This position works in a small team environment, therefore performing other duties as necessary, such as, but not limited to, helping improve safety, maximizing department OEE, quality, & cleanliness, are part of this position. Associate ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read, write, and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Works in a safe manner and helps hold associates accountable for working safely.
Provides technical guidance as needed. Acts as a mentor and provides leadership for the technical sterilization team. Develops training programs related to sterilization processes and works directly with sterilization group to certify associates.
Creates technical knowledge for the Sterilization department and transfers this knowledge to the technical associates and operators.
Coaches associates on continuous improvement methodologies.
Understands top losses within the department and develops and implements plans to eliminate losses and drive OEE performance.
Responsible for root cause analysis of prioritized OEE losses.
Sterilization Systems this associate has responsibility for are mechanical, pneumatics, vacuum, electrical, and a deionized water system.
Assists with quality investigation, change control, and validation activity.
Lead the installation of new sterilization equipment including optimization of processes and compliance with all applicable regulatory standards
Assist with coordination of plant shutdown activities for sterilization operations.
Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and spare parts inventories.
Provide support to ongoing sterilization operation as needed. This will require occasional off-shift support to train new associates or troubleshoot.
Maintain Licensed Radiation worker certification
Communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing) with various levels of the organization (Microbiologists, Product Engineers, shipping, & management associates).
Helps ensure Cobalt Loading is performed in a safe & efficient manner.
Ability to become an assistant radiation safety officer preferred.
Departmental Housekeeping.
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.
Education:
High School diploma/GED required.
Associate’s degree preferred.
B. S. Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
In lieu of AS or BS Degree, 10 years technical or manufacturing experience required.
Two years of medical device manufacturing experience preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience maintaining/troubleshooting mechanical, PLC based, vacuum, & electrical systems preferred.
Ability to become licensed operator (Radiation Safety & Security testing) required.
Ability to become an assistant Radiation Safety Officer preferred.
