Department Paramedics Job Summary Performs dispatch work operating and monitoring communications equipment in response to medical emergencies. Essential Functions: Answers 911 and other emergency telephone lines where callers are requesting medical assistance (20%) Monitors and controls the movement of ambulances (10%) Initiates Emergency Medical Dispatch procedures (10%) Gathers and prioritizes data received from emergency telephone contacts (10%) Receives reports and complaints and records pertinent information (10%) Schedules and arranges inter-facility patient transfers (10%) Maintains a daily activity log (10%) Maintains and distributes updates of hospital divert status changes (10%) Participates as a preceptor for EMS students, and may assist with orientation of new employees (10%) Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Work Experience: 1-3 years of public safety or emergency medical dispatching experience -OR- two years of experience in emergency or non-emergency telephone public contact work required. One year as a 911 emergency operator or one year of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) on an emergency ambulance preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams – internal and external to Denver Health. Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software. Experience with mass notification systems, preferred Knowledge of Emergency Medical Dispatch processes. Ability to work in an unstructured environment to establish priorities, review work and resolve problems.
