Department Denver Sheriffs Job Summary Under minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, or treatment program in various patient care settings. Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute." The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting. Essential Functions: Reviews medical records, inventory forms for accuracy and compliance. This is done via chart reviews, chart audits, and other means. (25%) Monitors and maintains Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives in a timely manner. Demonstrates a working knowledge of State and Federal Regulations, National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards, and American Correctional Association (ACA) applying them to assigned projects. (25%) Collects, analyzes, and reports information as appropriate. Monitors Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects. Tracks and reports productivity and CQI activities. (25%) Perform Lead/Relief Charge Nurse duties (5%) Works to identify problem areas and contributes to development of solutions, so that desired levels of quality improvement are achieved. (5%) Reviews reports and other information to collect data needed for specific projects. (5%) Meets with personnel to provide appropriate feedback re: clinical and non- clinical aspects such as appropriate documentation (5%) Works cooperatively with Clinical Nurse Educators, Program Managers, Nurse Manager, Health Service Administrator and others to meet deadlines, client and regulatory requirements and improve overall quality. (5%) Education: Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program 1. Completion of an accredited nursing education program that satisfies the licensing requirements of the Colorado State Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses Required Work Experience: 1-3 years Typically, a minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience in a patient care setting Required less than 1 year Correctional Care experience preferred Licenses: RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards. Strong understanding and display of the principals of customer service as it applies to patients, staff and the community Ability to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient-centric care and maintain Denver Health’s high level of patient satisfaction. [Nursing Vision Statement] Ability to work effectively in a team matrix environment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and in a cross functional environment. Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary staff, charge nurses, clinical nurse educator(s), and Nursing Managers, providers,, executive leadership to provide care to patients with respect to their uniqueness using informed judgment, competence, individual qualifications, and collaboration with the health care team. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of assessment findings as they relate to the disease process and continuum of care.
