ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
DESCRIPTION: The Victim Witness Administrator will work under limited supervision and would administer the Victim/Witness Program, VALE Program and Crime Victim Compensation Program. Grant writing and reporting are important components of this position. Experience with grant writing is ideal; however, the candidate can be trained in this if open to learning. This position is 100% grant funded and has been in existence since 1982. This position supervises five victim/witness specialists throughout the 11th Judicial District. On a limited basis will provide human services, support, education and guidance to crime victims and witnesses through the prosecutorial phase of the criminal justice system in the District Attorney's Office. Work involves preparing victims and witnesses for trial, providing, or arranging a variety of support services to promote emotional healing and educating victims/witnesses regarding the various processes involved with the case. Employee and victim services staff are responsible for maintaining liaison between victims/witnesses and prosecutors. This position is responsible for developing partnerships and collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other victim services agencies in the judicial district. The position reports to the District Attorney.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two to three years in working in social work, criminal justice or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal communications skills a must requires the ability to interact with people of all temperaments; must be adaptable to performing under stress or when confronted with persons acting under stress.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn data entry programs quickly.
- The ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources available to victims.
- Knowledge about the effects of abuse and trauma on individuals, children, families and community.
- Familiarization with the Colorado Victim's Rights Amendment.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, and compassion with persons that are emotionally distraught.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Generally confined to an office or courtroom and is mostly sedentary. Minimal lifting may be required.
