Job Description:

123.NET is looking for an experienced and proactive Safety Manager to oversee all safety-related activities within our telecom construction projects. The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all employees and contractors while maintaining strict compliance with all state, federal, and local safety regulations. This position requires a leader with extensive knowledge of safety management, risk assessments, incident investigations, and a track record of maintaining a strong safety culture across telecom construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Development: Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment at all telecom construction sites.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, FMCSA guidelines, state-specific construction safety laws, and other relevant safety standards. Stay updated with changes in safety regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead and manage the safety team, providing direction, support, and training to safety supervisors and other site safety personnel. Foster a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • State Regulations & Recordkeeping: Oversee the accurate completion of OSHA 300 Logs, FMCSA biannual updates, and other regulatory recordkeeping requirements. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, injuries, and safety violations.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections across all projects. Identify potential safety hazards, recommend solutions, and ensure corrective actions are implemented to mitigate risks.
  • Training & Development: Develop and oversee the execution of safety training programs, including onboarding for new hires, ongoing safety education for all staff, and specialized training for high-risk activities (e.g., tower climbing, equipment operation, and trenching).
  • Incident Management: Lead investigations of workplace accidents and near-misses, analyzing root causes and ensuring corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
  • Maintain detailed reports and ensure compliance with reporting protocols.
  • Safety Meetings: Organize and lead regular safety meetings and toolbox talks, promoting safety awareness, discussing ongoing safety initiatives, and addressing any concerns from the workforce.
  • Safety Metrics & Reporting: Track key safety performance metrics and provide regular reports to senior management, highlighting trends, compliance status, and areas for improvement.
  • Emergency Response: Ensure all telecom construction sites are prepared for emergencies, including the development and implementation of emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and first aid protocols.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure safety is integrated into every phase of the construction process. Collaborate on hazard analysis, risk assessments, and project planning.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor the effectiveness of the safety programs and initiatives, gathering feedback from the workforce and management, and making continuous improvements to enhance safety culture and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in safety management within the construction industry, with a strong preference for candidates with telecom construction experience.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour construction certification (OSHA 40-hour preferred), First Aid/CPR certification, and additional relevant safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar credentials.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and state-specific construction safety regulations.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing a safety team and promoting a safety-conscious culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for conducting safety training, presenting reports, and collaborating with fellow employees.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in the identification of hazards and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in safety management software, OSHA recordkeeping systems, and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of telecom-specific construction processes, such as tower climbing, trenching, fiber optic installations, and other high-risk activities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work Environment: This role requires regular visits to telecom construction sites, with potential exposure to outdoor elements, heights, and construction hazards.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform site inspections, lead safety meetings, and manage safety compliance activities across multiple projects.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to project sites will be required to oversee safety implementation and conduct site audits.
