Job Description

1248 is a family office investment company located on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO. We are currently searching for a dynamic people leader to join our team as Director, Corporate Tax. In addition to building a cohesive, engaged team this position is responsible for overseeing the Company’s tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for income taxes for multiple entities, and UHNW individuals of varying complexity. The successful candidate will work with businesses, service providers, and other tax professionals in carrying out his or her responsibilities.

Responsibilities :

Develop and implement tax strategies to effectively optimize risk management and meet Company objectives
Provide outstanding tax support, advice, and education to investors
Prepare comprehensive, transparent, and easy to understand tax reporting for key stakeholders
Oversee and sign off on completion of federal, state and local income tax returns including all related analysis and support.
Review and distribution of investor K-1s for pooled investment vehicles and private equity funds.
Create systems to monitor compliance with applicable tax statute.
Responsible for audits of federal and state income tax and state and local filings.
Understand and stay abreast of important tax legislation.
Design models for use in calculating tax projections and scenarios.
Communicate tax obligations for cash planning.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with third party service providers and other departments within the firm.
Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
Assist in estimating and monitoring annual tax liability.

Must be comfortable and have a natural aptitude to working strategically and hands on with a client first mindset

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Experience :

Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting, Master’s Degree in Business Taxation preferred

10 years of experience with at least 5 years in a public accounting firm

In depth knowledge of the tax code, compliance and procedures for C-corps, S-corps, gift and estate, investment partnerships, trusts, and individuals

Experience with building complex tax models to project impact of current or proposed tax legislation, estimating for quarterly payments, and other analytical projects

Proven experience managing and developing a team of associates

CPA or EA is required
