Chief Facilities Engineer

Position Summary

The Chief Engineer will oversee many aspects of 1440 Multiversity's buildings and grounds; ensuring the property is well maintained - this position is a hands-on active working member of the facilities team. The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and improving 1440 Multiversity's physical assets, equipment, safety systems, health protocols, and security around campus. Additionally the Chief Engineer administers and assists the Maintenance and Grounds teams in the completion of projects while scheduling work that is the most efficient and productive use of each individual's time and skill set while also assessing and identifying ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of work and providing real time coaching and feedback.

Accountabilities

  • Work with Director of Facilities in the Selection Process - hiring, training, certifying, and managing - the Maintenance and Grounds staff to effectively, efficiently, and safely perform assigned duties
  • Work with Safety and Security Team in execution of Cart Driving Safety program, Haz-Com Program, Illness and Injury Prevention, Campus Disaster, Emergency, and Evacuation Programs
  • Maintain a full facilities management plan, staff scheduling and reporting
  • Tracks all work assignments with appropriate deadlines for project completions - work orders distribution, response time, maintaining inventory, equipment tracking, and so on.
  • Lead by example in care of property, equipment, safe work practices and guest interaction
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings - department and campus-wide - facilitating as necessary
  • Assure all team members understand the need of safe work practices
  • Regularly conduct inspections and walk campus to assess and plan work for efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structures of all buildings and grounds inclusive of all walking trails
  • Training and mentoring all team members on the importance of consistent reporting of the conditions of buildings, grounds, and related systems safety and proper operations
  • Assist the Director of Facilities in developing, organizing, and maintaining proper storage for warehousing tools and equipment that meet day-to- day operating and maintenance requirements
  • Monitor and track campus vehicles and equipment maintenance needs
  • Meet Contractors / Vendors, Fire and Police officials as necessary in a prepared professional manner
  • Maintain existing ADA property functions and look for additional areas of convenience
  • Work with Landscaping supervisor in the Control the Abor Care plan and execute in accordance with safety and care requirements.
  • Work with Alarm companies on Annual and Semi-Annual system testing
  • Monitor and control utilities use for greatest efficiencies
  • Monitor KPI's and drive efficiency in performance
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule when needed, nights, holidays, weekends, and guest focused events while agreeing to being "on-call" for urgent repair and emergency situations
  • Sound financial acumen to help create and manage annual department budget and monthly expenses - participate in monthly GL reviews with finance and possibly monthly P&L reviews

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of the maintenance and safety requirements for multi-building facilities, grounds, systems, and equipment (including newly developed technology) and their impact on the overall operations of the organization
  • Experience with (or ability to learn) basic P&L statement and managing departmental expenses
  • Thorough trade knowledge in :
  • Paints and finishes

  • Plumbing and Drainage
  • Basic Electrical and Data
  • Carpentry and Building standards
  • HVAC standards of operation and maintenance
  • Populate and organize work order system for property workflow
  • Concurrently manage teams in several projects and routine maintenance
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with an ability to communicate technical information to management, other department staff, and facilities staff so that responses are positive, plans are sound, and budgets and resources are allocated to ensure a fully operational and safe facility
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen appliances and safety systems a plus
  • High school diploma and / or higher education degree or training program recognized by the industry or trade
  • Three (3) years in complex facility management required - 5 preferred
  • Solid ability to use Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Be readily available and responsive at all times (even when off-campus) to help solve facility emergencies through use of a radio, a cell phone and / or delegation of personnel or contractor
  • Be available for emergency on-call situations
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred but not required
  • Able to stand and walk for a minimum period of 8 to 10 hours at a time

    Salary : $85,000 - $95,000
