Position Overview
The Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) – Entertainment North America is responsible for leading the strategic direction and operational management of the underwriting function within the entertainment business unit. This role requires expertise in entertainment insurance, including risks associated with film production, live events, sports, and theater. The CUO will drive profitability, optimize underwriting practices, implement sophisticated portfolio management techniques and ensure the organization remains competitive in the global marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and execute the underwriting strategy for the entertainment business unit, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall goals.
• Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities in North America markets.
• Lead efforts to expand geographic territory, product offerings and improve market share while maintaining underwriting discipline.
Operational Excellence
• Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines, standards, and policies to ensure consistency, compliance, and profitability.
• Oversee the development and implementation of data-driven underwriting tools, systems, and analytics to enhance decision-making.
• Monitor and manage the underwriting portfolio to maintain a balanced risk appetite and achieve targeted loss ratios.
Team Leadership & Development
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing underwriting team with expertise in entertainment insurance.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning across the team, building upon the Arch behaviors.
• Provide ongoing training and development to ensure team members remain current with industry trends and emerging risks.
Client & Broker Engagement
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key clients, brokers, and industry stakeholders to drive business development.
• Act as the organization’s representative at industry events, conferences, and forums to build the Arch brand and reputation.
Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies across all underwriting activities.
• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address emerging challenges in entertainment insurance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.
• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in underwriting, with significant expertise in entertainment insurance.
• Proven track record in leadership roles with a focus on strategic growth and profitability.
Skills & Competencies
• In-depth knowledge of entertainment insurance products, underwriting principles, and risk management practices.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data and analytics for decision-making.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

• High-level problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex, dynamic challenges.

• Achieving targeted combined ratio and profitability metrics.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$233,600 - $315,400/year
