Job Summary
The Tax Accountant prepares, coordinates and documents workpapers of federal and/or multi-state tax returns for premium, municipal, property and income tax for Arch MI in accordance with the respective laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures. The incumbent operates under broad practices and procedures governed by corporate policy and tax regulations with latitude to determine methods and techniques to accomplish results. The Tax Accountant will be working a in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment while building relationship within the finance team and larger organization.
- Prepares annual premium and municipal tax returns and estimates for monthly and quarterly tax prepayments.
- Prepares federal and state income tax returns, extensions, estimates and attend to other miscellaneous tax issues.
- Prepares journal entries and reconciles tax accounts quarterly and annually.
- Performs tax research and assists with special tax projects as needed. Responds to tax questions from other departments.
- Interfaces with other departments to obtain and compile information for review by outside auditors and provides supporting documents for internal and external auditors as well, include the IRS and state personnel.
- Assists with state premium, property and income tax audits and responds to related tax notices.
- Coordinates with systems groups regrading changes in reporting requirements.
- Makes recommendations concerning the implementation of policies necessary for compliance and tax planning.
- Provides relevant cross training to other staff members.
- Cross-train in other areas including the tax provision as needed.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of federal, state and local corporate compliance laws, methods and practices with advance knowledge in area of specialty
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills to effectively deal with multiple contacts both internal and external.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Results orientation and team collaboration ability.
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office products. General knowledge of Workday accounting application and/or Longview tax software is helpful.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related business field with 1 - 3 years of job-related experience

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
California: $82,000.00 - $102,500/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
