Job Description:
Position Summary:
An executive-level position responsible for the leadership of an on-site Airbus improvement team at a critical Tier 1 supplier for our A350 Program. Accountable for all aspects of a ‘Joint Improvement Plan’ to assist with performance improvement and on-time, on-cost, and on-quality section deliveries. Subject to and contingent upon the necessary regulatory approvals, if a future Airbus acquisition of this supplier materializes, the role holder would then assume responsibility for the Kinston, North Carolina plant itself, as Plant/General Manager as well as CEO/MD of the newly created Company with all associated duties and responsibilities that such governance and management would necessitate.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Leadership & daily management of the on-site Airbus Joint Improvement Plan team at the Spirit Kinston plant.
● Continue the development of a Joint Improvement Plan, and its governance and adherence across all aspects of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & People.
● Ensure that there is an aligned end-to-end plan that supports A350 program requirements, with a reliable, realistic and optimized forecast of delivery dates to recover production and ramp up sustainably.
● Develop and deploy a Quality Management System that improves Quality throughout the production system.
● Create a local organization that is capable of implementing major Program modifications without disrupting production flow or quality/delivery performance.
● Develop a transformation plan, with our Spirit partners, to enable a sustainable and efficient operational organization.
Subject to regulatory approval and if a future acquisition materializes, primary responsibilities would become:
● Leadership and management of the cross-Functional Plant Management Team, to deliver the necessary Plant-wide improvements against an agreed Plant Improvement Road Map.
● Undertake a detailed assessment of business performance across all aspects of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People and prepare a Road Map of necessary improvement areas.
● Analysis of any up-stream supplier disturbances that affect production flow. Develop and direct a plan to mitigate and eliminate them.
● A detailed skills and competence analysis across all levels of the Plant. Develop a plan to prepare the workforce of the future, with relationships built across a local eco-system to prepare a future talent pipeline.
● Via appropriate methods, assess employee engagement and satisfaction; and prepare plans to improve all aspects of the employee experience.
● Ensure all appropriate industrial processes are maintained in line with EASA requirements and Airbus internal policies.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
● Required: A Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Quality Management or Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
● Required:
o 15 years of leadership experience, of which there's a demonstrated track record of leading teams in an operational environment, in which quality performance, continuous improvement and all other aspects associated with operational leadership can be demonstrated.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
● Required:
o Knowledge of basic Production and Quality rules in aviation.
o Demonstrated experience managing large teams in a multi-cultural environment.
o Experience managing a number of stakeholders at all levels of the organization, in a complex, Global
matrix organization.
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
● Required:
o Fluency in written and spoken English
● Preferred:
o Fluency in another language (French, German, and/or Spanish) is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
● Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions and observe activities on the production floor.
● Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
● Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification in office settings and on production floor.
● Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Familiarity with most production equipment and able to operate many tools.
● Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 30lbs/13kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
● Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/9kg.
● Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
● Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at a computer and in meetings.
● Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
● Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information and observing production activities.
● Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time and on short notice.
● Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
