Youth Advocate – Awake Overnight

Pay: $22.58 (21.50 Hourly $1.08 shift differential)

Shift: Overnight, 11:00pm - 9:00am, Weekdays Weekends, flexible.

Location: Hope House Shelter, Excelsior, MN.

Position Overview:

180 Degrees, a Human Services Non-Profit Organization, is seeking an Awake Overnight Youth Advocate, who will assist our shelter program in the overnight shift, contributing to our holistic support of the youth we serve and in our efforts for developing, supporting, and implementing services that are culturally-competent and grounded to showcase youth development, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.

This position is incredibly flexible and offers significant periods of low activity, providing generous time for independent work while making a profound and positive impact in our mission as an organization: supporting youth and young adults through emergency shelter, transitional living, and foster care. 

Daily key contributions expected in this role:

• Conduct well-being safety checks for youth at shelter.
• Monitor overall activity at shelter through video surveillance for safety.
• Assist with light housekeeping to maintain safety standards. 
• Supporting minor meal preparation tasks for day shift meal prep. 
• Assist the youth in beginning their morning activities.
• Administer medication to youth when required. 
• Document youth interactions and behaviors once per shift. 

Occasional duties in this role:

• Be a positive role model for the youth and resolve conflict in a constructive fashion.
• Take crisis calls, conduct call screenings, intakes and discharges.
• Support daily goals for the youth.
• Teach and model the skills necessary to maintain good health through the teaching of healthy eating habits.
• Provide concise communication via case notes, staff logs, phone contacts, resident files, medicine administration forms, etc.
• Display teamwork through supportive communication and attendance or involvement in group staff meetings.
• Other duties may be assigned.

This role is located in our Hope House Shelter, in Excelsior, MN. 

Essential Competencies:

Qualifications:  

• Must be 21 years of age or older. 
• Dependable transportation to and from work.
• Valid driver’s license and car insurance. 
• Ability to clear a Department of Human Services (DHS) background check.
