What are the responsibilities and job description for the Power Electronics Engineer position at 180 Engineering?
Descriptio
n for Power Electr onics Engineer :
Specialized EE that will focus exclusively on upcoming / new high powered (400-1,000V) DC / DC convertor products used for military and automobile applications. Will lead, while also being hands on, the entire product lifecycle from conception, prototyping, design, testing, and transfer to production.
Responsibilities for Power Electronics Engineer :
- Lead the development of control algorithms for high-power DC / DC converters, focusing on efficiency, stability, and dynamic response.
- Develop simulation models using software tools such as MATLAB / Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, and SPICE to predict system behavior and validate control strategies.
- Specialize in selecting the most suitable converter topology for each application, considering factors such as efficiency, size, and cost.
- Design and optimize magnetic components, including inductors and transformers, for the DC / DC converter, considering parameters such as inductance, current rating, and saturation characteristics.
- Select appropriate power semiconductor devices, such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, or SiC / GaN devices, based on performance requirements and operating conditions.
- Optimize switching characteristics, thermal management, and protection features to ensure reliable operation and minimize losses.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, firmware engineers, and system architects to integrate control algorithms into hardware platforms.
- Conduct performance analysis, simulations, and tests to validate design assumptions and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
