The Meter Technician provides support in the configuration, installation, maintenance, and repair of metering, communications, remote supervisory, metering, and related equipment needed in the operation of electric transmission facilities across Louisiana.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and repair metering, communications, remote supervisory, and related substation equipment.
  • Design and perform system configurations on field equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Assists in development and documentation of maintenance procedures, records, and related programs necessary to provide the historical and operational records for all equipment maintained, including schedules of routine maintenance.
  • Ensures proper alarm and diagnostics monitoring is in place and functioning.
  • Makes recommendations for procurement of maintenance equipment, tools, parts, and training.
  • Operates test equipment necessary for the proper testing, operation and calibration of metering, communications, remote supervisory, and related substation equipment.
  • Regularly travels to various sites to perform tasks or inspect equipment and systems.
  • Performs all duties, including driving, in a safe and professional manner.
  • Reads, understands, and interprets engineering drawings, manufacturers’ documents, and other documentation needed for the installation and testing of existing and/or new equipment.
  • Coordinates and monitors repair of equipment by contractors when required.
  • Collaborates with other 1803 team members to facilitate knowledge transfer amongst team members.
  • Provides key insights and suggestions on the buildout of any metering and communication systems (fiber, microwave, radio, etc.) across the 1803 territory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingly accepts range of assignments. Exhibits a “can do” attitude toward future challenges. 
  • Knowledge of metering, communication systems, remote supervisory, and related equipment and their relationship to the overall operation of the transmission system.
  • Knowledge of the principles, applications, and physics of analog and digital electronics, microprocessors, data circuits, and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
  • Complete understanding of one-line diagrams and engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Skilled in using electronic test equipment and documentation to diagnose equipment problems and effect repairs, or to ensure proper performance of equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required on job sites.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage assigned work responsibilities in an independent manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (e.g. reports, emails, presentations).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others, both inside and outside the organization. 
  • Ability to think logically and independently to accomplish the goals of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Associate degree in Electronic Technology, or equivalent. Education can be substituted with suitable work experience.

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
