1870 Farm is a 17-acre farm designed as a free-range paradise for children. Campers can interact with farm animals, pan for gemstones, explore nature, and get their hands dirty with hands-on activities. About the Role
The Science Specialist will lead fun, hands-on science experiments and activities, encouraging campers to explore the natural world and scientific principles. Activities may include chemistry experiments, physics demonstrations, nature-based investigations, or other engaging STEM-related projects.
Qualifications and Experience:
- At least 20 years of age
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or childcare setting
- Comfortable working outdoors in a farm environment
- Strong background in science education, STEM activities, or related experience
- Ability to plan and lead science activities safely and effectively
- Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability
- Reliable daily transportation to and from camp (Chapel Hill, NC)
Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate engaging, hands-on science activities
- Ensure all materials and supplies are prepared and used safely
- Monitor and maintain science supplies, ensuring proper storage and use
- Work alongside Summer Camp Counselors to create a positive and supportive learning environment
- Assist in supervising campers during science activities and throughout the camp day
- Help with morning setup and afternoon cleanup of activity areas
- Prioritize safety for campers, staff, and animals at all times
- Provide basic first aid if needed (First Aid and CPR training provided during staff training)

Pay: $15.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 per week
