Summary: Responsible for performing highly specialized work in maintaining accounting records of the Bank and maintain accurate, timely, and meaningful production of financial and regulatory reports.  Responsible for general ledger reconciliation, analysis of financial accounts, and preparation of journal entries.  Responsible for managing and ensuring effective operations of the Accounting Department.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Maintain the integrity of the Bank’s general ledger including reconciliations, postings, maintenance, month-end and year-end closings for the Bank, including reviewing financial results for accuracy, completeness and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Supervises the Accounting Department by directing daily activities, providing guidance, mentoring, training and preparing performance evaluations
  • Assists the CFO on a monthly basis with preparation of all necessary materials to properly inform the Board of Directors as to the financial status of the Bank
  • Assists the CFO in the annual preparation of the budget
  • Preparation of regulatory reporting including the Call Report, Federal Reserve filings, and FHLB reporting
  • Coordinates the general ledger reconciliation process throughout the Bank, which includes reconciling assigned general ledger accounts according to appropriate time frames and requirements and reviewing reconciliations prepared by staff
  • Investigate (or facilitate investigation of) general ledger reconciling items and take the necessary actions to ensure timely clearance
  • Coordinates and assists the external auditors with interim and year-end audits, as well as assists in preparation of the annual financial report/related disclosures
  • Responsible for the preparation and updating of accounting policies and procedures for the Bank, ensuring ongoing adherence to all internal and external control requirements related to areas of responsibility
  • Assists in the preparation of the monthly Asset Liability Management Committee minutes and submission of the files for the ALM report
  • Coordinates year-end 1099 MISC/NEC process
  • Ad hoc reports for CFO/Executive Management
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education/Experience/Abilities:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
  • 5 years’ work experience required
  • Banking experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting issues as they relate to the banking industry
  • Ability to evaluate financial reports, forms, and data; analyze and research complex issues
  • Experience working with accounting and reporting systems
  • Computer proficiency and intermediate proficiency in Excel
  • Strong risk management skills to manage risk under all economic scenarios
  • Strong dedication to accuracy and efficiency
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and time management skills
  • Proven strength in relationship development across business lines and flexibility to adapt approaches to meet the needs of a broad range of departments
