Chief Financial Officer (CFO)—Part-Time—Life Sciences Company

Company Overview :

We are a fast-growing diagnostics company that develops and commercializes clinical laboratory tests for the prevention and early detection of cancers and chronic diseases. Our plans include a small (microcap) initial public offering (IPO) in the first half of 2025. We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced financial leader to join our team as a part-time CFO, which could transition to full-time after a successful IPO.

Position Summary :

As the part-time CFO, you will play a critical role in helping us prepare for and execute our IPO road show, including timely responses to questions from investors, analysts, and investment bankers. Immediate duties to include presenting and explaining our financial statements and updating and presenting forward looking financial projections. Longer term (post-IPO) duties to include oversight of accounting and audits and preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements. (We currently have a team in place to administer the day-to-day accounting and preparation of financial statements.)

Key Responsibilities :

  • IPO Readiness and Execution :

Lead the financial presentation during the IPO process.

  • Collaborate with legal, accounting, and investment banking partners to prepare necessary documentation and filings.
  • Assist in managing relationships with investors, analysts, and regulatory bodies.
  • Cash-Flow Management :

    • Work with CEO, COO and other members of management team to monitor spending, revenues, capital allocation and cash flow management to maximize runway prior to closing IPO or bridge financing.

  • Investor Outreach :

    • Work with CEO and investment bankers in outreach to and communication with prospective investors in our IPO or bridge financing rounds.

    Qualifications :

  • Proven experience as a CFO or in a senior financial leadership role, preferably with a publicly traded diagnostics, biotech or medical technology company.
  • Prior participation with a company completing an IPO preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or MBA is a plus.

  • Location : Remote with occasional on-site meetings in Maryland.
  • Hours : Initially an average of about 10 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate the demands of the IPO process; could expand to half-or full-time post IPO.
  • Compensation : Competitive salary commensurate with experience, potential for performance-based incentives.
