Location BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Title Medical Laboratory Assistant, BMH, Day Shift, Full Time 80hr/pp The Medical Laboratory Assistant works in various areas of the laboratory performing pre-analytical or post-analytical functions. The MLA processes samples for testing including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping. Also will provide customer service duties by answering all laboratory phone calls. Providing support for the staff who are performing the clinical testing. Must have following educational requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Preferred Experience: 6 months of prior patient care experience in a healthcare environment including computer data entry experience preferred. Formal training in phlebotomy or basic medical laboratory functions may substitute for the 6 months of prior patient care experience. Proficient in the use of laboratory information system Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills to provide service recovery where appropriate. Knowledge of basic mathematics and medical terminology. Must demonstrate excellent human relation skills, including verbal and written communication and problem solving skills. Must demonstrate organization skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative. Must demonstrate positive attitude Must be able to work in and cope with a changing environment Must demonstrate flexibility Must demonstrate team-building skills Report laboratory results to clients and patients using established protocols Document call history in required format and maintain complete and accurate records Report client concerns using established protocols Leads by example in demonstrating "Standards for Excellence" behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. May be requested to alter start time, shift, department(s), and/or site depending on patient care needs. Working irregular hours, including mandatory overtime, holidays, weekends and on-call hours possible. Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
