Job Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting systems engineering processes and supplementing skills to systematically convert customer needs into total systems solutions.
The incumbent will apply systems engineering processes to aid in the performance of requirements analysis and management, system design, analyses and trade studies, systems integration, systems support and systems test. This position typically works under close supervision and direction.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned analysis and trade studies as necessary to aid in the selection of system concepts as directed by a Systems Engineer
- Support Systems Engineer with elicitation and elaboration of requirements with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support Systems Engineer with allocation of system requirements to hardware/software and oversee development/refinement of lower-level requirements
- Support systems engineer with developing hardware and software designs to ensure compliance with requirements and systems design
- Write specifications, design documentation, and test plans/procedures
- Provide assistance to the Systems Engineer in hardware/software design oversight
- Perform hardware/software integration
- Perform systems level testing
- Provide analysis and troubleshooting for issue investigation and correction approaches
- To assist with troubleshooting exercises when defects are discovered
- Gather, analyse, and report metrics
- Perform a supporting role on proposals, as required
- Provide assistance to the Systems Engineer in performance of other systems engineering activities, as needed

Minimum Job Requirements:
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in systems, software or electrical engineering, computer science, information systems or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Desirable:
- INCOSE Certification (ASEP)
Skills/Experience/Knowledge
Essential:
- Experience with software technology
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Experience at a team level in development or technology integration teams
- Basic knowledge and experience in system and software/hardware development
- Experience in computing networks, platforms, and software architectures
- Knowledge and experience in the definition and traceability of requirements
- Knowledge in the implementation of system requirements verification methods
- Knowledge and experience in the planning of system test activities
- Familiarity of working in a formal project structure following ISO 9001 processes
- Experience with Software Development Life Cycles using both Waterfall and Agile approaches
- Familiarity with expressing system designs using UML
- Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and relevant “Health and Safety” legislative requirements
Desirable:
- Project co-ordination experience
- Familiarity with expressing system designs using SysML
- General understanding of Rational Requisite Pro and/or IBM Rational DOORS
- Knowledge of embedded devices and technology, and engineered IT system solutions
- Ticketing and automated fare collection, or similar applications involving large networks of unattended/passenger-operated devices
