Job Requirements and Responsibilities include:
Job Summary:
Average 20 hours of work per week with rotating shifts and occasional overtime as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor patients' progress and intervene in chronic illnesses according to ODRC policies and protocols.
• Inoculate or vaccinate against communicable diseases, prescribe medications, administer treatment for acute and chronically ill patients, and perform minor surgery as trained and competent.
• Perform routine physical exams to determine control or status of chronic conditions and diagnose new conditions.
• Evaluate patients for specialty referral consultations and review consult reports for recommendations, approving or disapproving accordingly.
• Order and review laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic testing results as necessary.
• Facilitate completion of medical reclassification and requests for non-formulary medications with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
• Perform routine and emergency medical care as scheduled.
• Examine, diagnose, and treat patients within scope of practice identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board.
• Conduct rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO.
• Document medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines, policies, protocols, and related American Correctional Association standards.
• Cooperate with the CMO regarding medical quality oversight and accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance.
