Job Title: Epidemiologist
Duration: 12 Months Contract

Must-Have:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics.
- Five years of work experience in epidemiology.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The preferred candidate will have an MPH or PhD with significant experience in public health, overdose surveillance, or health data analysis.
The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:
- Epidemiologist 1 will play a key role in advancing overdose surveillance and strengthening the statewide multidisciplinary overdose working group.
- This includes the development of new surveillance tools and analytic briefs to assist partners in making data-driven decisions for overdose prevention and response.
- The position will also facilitate the working group meetings by coordinating monthly continued learning opportunities to internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate the Overdose Working Group, including:
- Organizing and leading monthly meetings.
- Structuring meetings to include data trends, expert presentations, and partner updates.
- Coordinating subject matter expert presentations on overdose-related research and evidence-based interventions.
- Develop and implement new surveillance tools to support overdose response efforts, including:
- Creating monthly analytic briefs highlighting linked data, emerging substances, and trends among marginalized communities.
- Designing interactive dashboards and visualizations to enhance accessibility and interpretation of overdose data.
- Expand the working group's reach and engagement, including:
- Increasing participation from regional epidemiologists and local health partners.
- Working with OIA's Data Governance (DG) team to determine how internal data trends can be aggregated and shared publicly.
- Support the planning and execution of an annual in-person working group meeting, which will include:
- Partner updates, success stories, and program spotlights.
- Evaluation of the working group's impact and overdose data utility.
- Coordinating travel for Hal Rogers working group participants.
- Provide timely data analysis and visualization support to TDH leadership, program staff, and external partners.
- Document processes and methodologies to ensure reproducibility and transparency.
The preferred candidate will have an MPH or PhD with significant experience in public health, overdose surveillance, or health data analysis.
The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:
- Proficiency in R or SAS (SQL experience preferred).
- Proficiency in a data visualization software, such as Tableau or R.
- Experience working with large datasets and developing analytic briefs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Experience facilitating meetings, coordinating stakeholders, and engaging multidisciplinary partners.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
