Position Title: Head of Finance
Reports to: CEO
THE ROLE
The Head of Finance is an essential part of building and scaling the brand, securing its future growth and profitability. This role will work closely with the Brand President and Board of Directors to define our financial strategies and execute key initiatives that lead to growth of the business.
THE SCOPE
The Head of Finance will oversee 5 key areas for the brand:
1.BUDGET FOR GROWTH & DRIVE CAPITAL RAISE(S)
- Develop and lead financial strategy, goals and objectives including budgets and financial forecasts (trends), in collaboration with Brand President and Board of Directors, by establishing models that reflect: P&L, overhead, balance sheet, and working capital using thoughtful and detailed build-ups and assumptions
- Drive the process of raising capital and be able to speak with authority on the business model and financial model to institutional investors and analysts
- Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed
- Oversee cash, investment, treasury and asset management
- Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans
- Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
- Actively monitor budgets and key initiatives to ensure achievement as planned including controlling cash flow and CAPEX/investment levels
2.DRIVE FINANCIAL REPORTING
- Oversee preparation of and present the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements
- Create live-reporting dashboard for use as a management tool
- Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and overhead cost allocation
- Prepare special reports as requested by CEO, Brand President, Board of Directors and Investors by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information and trends, synthesizing data and making appropriate recommendations.
- Engage the Board of Directors around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery
- Calculate & interpret financial results, exhibiting reporting controls and compliance of transactions
- Monitor SKU and Retailer-level trends for opportunities and improvements
- Assist with audits and data collection when needed
3.ENSURE FINANCIAL EFFICIENCY
- Maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
- Apply costing methods to model and evaluate performance
- Optimize the costs and efficacy of actions undertaken by maintaining constant links with cross-functional teams (e.g. DTC / loyalty benefits, product value analysis, cost analysis, media, etc.)
- Monitor costs and carry out all analyses required to identify risks and opportunities; propose the appropriate actions to close any gaps
4.LEVERAGE EXISTING & IDENTIFY NEW FINANCIAL SYSTEMS
- Build the financial department, systems, software and reporting to ensure proper maintenance of all financial and accounting systems and function
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
- Leverages knowledge and intuition around systems/data to provide insight into critical issues (Net Suite, SPS Commerce, …)
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Recommend and oversee brand related system development projects enabling growth and profitability
5.CULTIVATE CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP
- Using industry knowledge as well as market & financial expertise, partner with CEO, Brand President and cross-functional heads to understand, improve & challenge overall effectiveness of the business, to provide strategic recommendations contributing to the overall financial health and growth of the business, company-wide
- Drive & educate processes to benchmark our financial performance
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
- Support the management team through proactive analysis and follow up of revenue and profitability to identify and pursue improvement opportunities
- Be a role model for all team members within and outside the brand as well as developing the finance team
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience from roles as CFO, senior controller, or similar roles in the CPG industry, including hands-on responsibilities
- Proven leadership track record on a growth journey and exemplary history of financial project management
- Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
- Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
- Working knowledge of ERP platform/s
