What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Med/Surg Telemetry position at 247 AllStaff?
Key Responsibilities:1. Patient Care & Assessment:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments upon admission and at regular intervals.
- Monitor vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc.) and recognize early signs of patient deterioration.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood transfusions as prescribed.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, mobility, and nutrition.
- Provide wound care and post-surgical recovery monitoring.
- Implement fall prevention and infection control protocols.
2. Telemetry Monitoring:
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms using telemetry equipment.
- Identify and report any arrhythmias, ECG/EKG abnormalities, or life-threatening changes in patient status.
- Interpret and respond to ST-segment changes, bradycardia, tachycardia, and other cardiac events.
- Troubleshoot telemetry equipment malfunctions and ensure leads are correctly placed.
3. Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EMR), documenting patient progress and care plans.
- Record all medications, treatments, and procedures administered.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and state nursing regulations.
4. Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and case managers to coordinate patient care.
- Provide clear and concise shift reports to incoming nursing staff.
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, post-hospitalization care, and lifestyle modifications.
5. Emergency Response & Crisis Management:
- Act immediately in case of patient distress, using Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) interventions.
- Assist in Code Blue situations, including CPR, defibrillation, and administration of emergency medications.
- Identify signs of sepsis, respiratory distress, stroke, and other critical conditions, initiating rapid response team interventions as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:Required Education & Certifications:
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Valid RN license in the practicing state.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Telemetry certification (preferred but not always required).
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in Med-Surg and/or Telemetry nursing required.
- Experience working with cardiac patients, post-operative patients, or those with chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD, heart failure, etc.).
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation and cardiac monitoring.
