What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Receptionist position at 2nd Chance Treatment Center?
Medical receptionist provides administrative support to the Clinic by utilizing electronic medical record and practice management systems to complete administrative tasks. They provide assistance to patients, doctors, office employees, and other individuals. This employee helps the clinic run smoothly by scheduling appointments, greeting and checking in patients, answering phones, maintaining accounts and records, and other tasks as needed. Whether in person or over the phone, you are typically the first face or voice our patients will see or hear. Your role in this process cannot be overstated!
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and manages physician clinic schedules as patients check-in. Assists in scheduling appointments as needed.
- Serves as the first point of contact for staff, vendors, and patients.
- Good understanding of all services offered within 2nd Chance.
- Manages check-in and check-out functions. Verifies accuracy of demographics of new and existing patients, provides patients with necessary forms prior to appointment, collects insurance cards, identification, and copays at check in. Ensures that all forms, ID’s are scanned in to EMR prior to appointment.
- Facilitates communication between clinics to ensure that patients are being seen in a timely manner thus ensuring the patient flow of the clinic.
- Schedules appointments/tests/procedures. Directs walk-in patients and emergencies as per established policies and procedures.
- Collects co-pays. Reviews and verifies patient coverage of insurance or other agencies and computes the charges to be paid by the patient.
- Collects payments for copays/deductibles prior to the patient being seen by the provider per established policies and procedures.
- Reviews account for balances due. Informs patients of their outstanding balance, attempts to collect any remaining balance on patient account, provides receipts for any payments made.
- Makes reminder calls for next day appointments. Follows up with current patients on a daily basis.
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to patients of the practice.
- Pulls faxes and disseminate to the appropriate individual.
- Communicates patient issues/complaints to the practice manager.
- Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the front office.
- Oversees petty cash, close batches, post co-pays to batches, and End of Day balancing of the cash drawers. Notifies manager of any reconciliation shortages immediately.
- Scanning, printing, filing and other office duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- High school Degree or Equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
- At least 2 full years of direct experience as a medical office receptionist in a fast-paced clinic, hospital, or similar healthcare setting.
- Must be able to multitask effectively; critical time management skills necessary
- Understanding of basic healthcare terminology
- Demonstrated ability to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance companies
- Excellent customer service skills
- Pleasant phone demeanor; bilingual speaker preferred
- Computer skills required; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite mandatory, and must type 30 wpm
- CPR certified is a plus
