We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our finance team. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for processing employee payroll, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining accurate payroll records. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to handle confidential information, and the capacity to meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process and review payroll for employees on a bi-weekly or monthly basis, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, including tax deductions and benefits contributions
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, including 941s, state withholding, and unemployment tax returns
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, including employee pay history, deductions, and garnishments
- Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate any discrepancies between payroll records and general ledger entries
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other deductions
- Work with HR to ensure proper classification of employees, track leaves of absence, and manage employee benefit enrollments
- Prepare and distribute employee paychecks or direct deposit information, ensuring compliance with company policies
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, tax withholdings, and benefits
- Assist in year-end payroll processes, including preparing W-2s and handling employee compensation reporting
- Coordinate with external vendors for payroll-related activities such as benefit providers, tax agencies, and retirement plan administrators
- Assist with payroll audits and support external auditors during the audit process
Educational/Experience Level:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 2-3 years of payroll accounting experience, with knowledge of payroll systems and tax laws
- Experience with payroll software
- Strong understanding of payroll processing, payroll taxes, and employee benefits
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and formulas)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive payroll-related inquiries from employees
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Salary : $90,000 - $130,000
