Reports to:           High School Principal 

Department:         Science Department, grades 9-12

Work Year:           184 days

FLSA Status:         Exempt

Salary Range:       Unit A Salary Scales

 

Job Goal:  The Computer Science Teacher fosters a love of learning that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. Classes include AP Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles, and Java. Our Computer Science Program follows the DESE grade-level curriculum standards and utilizes a variety of resources as instructional materials.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
  • Professional Certification Required: 
    • MA DESE license in 9-12 Digital Literacy and Computer Science
    • SEI Endorsement
    • Additional certification in special education and/or ESL highly desirable
  • Specialized Knowledge: adolescent development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-racist instruction, co-teaching, social-emotional learning, technology integration

  • CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Working knowledge of Java programming required; proficient in Java preferred
  • Experience teaching English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting 
  • Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
  • Strong background in computer science & programming 
  • Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design
  • Highly desirable to have experience with:
    • Co-Teaching
    • Technology Integration

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Integrate technology in order to enhance and extend student learning experiences
  • Have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
  • Be flexible, collaborative, and have a growth mindset for self and students 

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and engagement. 
  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate
  • Evaluate and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence 
  • Participate in professional development activities, internal and external, and meets district expectations for licensure recertification
  • Participate in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
  • Any other relative duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Computer Science Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any paraeducators who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary, benefits, and responsibilities are per the contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
